The three words I got for this project were;
Deep sea fisherman
Prison
Envelope
My original idea for this was a man in prison a prison cell, a guard walks up to him and says "You have a letter." and then guides him out. Every open cell they pass shows a clip of the man's childhood, ending with the act that got him incarcerated. He is then led to a room with the envelope with other guards muttering about it?
Then it ends with the man opening the envelope with a shocked look.

Hi Dante,
ReplyDeleteHow does the deep sea fisherman tie in with your idea so far?
In the clips of his past, they would show him working as a deep sea fisherman.
DeleteOkay - so ... apologies for missing this previously... but Jackie is picking up on what we were talking about today - which is simply trying to squeeze as much use from the actual specific characteristics of your elements - so:
ReplyDeleteDeep Sea Fisherman - it makes sense to me that you might think more about the associated life-style/environment/working conditions that relate to this character - it's a lonely life, it's a dangerous life and it suggests contact with sea creatures above beyond the normal 'fish' maybe (Think Moby Dick, for example).
Another approach is to 'un-human' your thinking about the project - and think about setting it from a fish's point of view - what would fish think about this deep sea fisherman? Would a fisherman be a 'criminal' if you were a fish? A kidnapping, murdering monster? If so, what would a 'fish prison' look like? So many fantasy stories perform this sort of manoeuvre, where they map human experience/logic onto animal or similar worlds.
Meanwhile, envelopes are often about giving information and receiving news; envelopes can be mysterious; they can contain letters that explain or re-frame a particular history or event. Envelopes can contain cash - bribes and blackmail threats, poison-pen letters etc... and in a fishy world, I daresay a clam or oyster could serve as an envelope or pocket for information?
As suggested, I think there's loads more to be broken up here in terms of really using your components and I suggest you give the wheels more of a spin :)
