@Phil - OGR

I'm sorry for the delay in getting this up, and that I don't have all 100 thumbnails (although I was so sure I had more)

    Hey Dante,

    I really like the 'germophobic' idea and i like the modular/cellular idea too - that idea that the Baucis people are sort of OCD types who have removed themselves to a more pure plane of existence is a really nice explanation for what they're doing up there, and why they're never coming down. Just further references in terms of your Japanese hotel/hive idea: take a look at 'modular architecture' and 'cellular architecture' as search terms - I think you'll find some inspiring examples.

    In terms of colour palette - be careful with the greys etc. as you could make your spaces look a bit concrete and dystopian and thus the opposite of the impression you're trying to achieve. If these people are worried about germs etc and keeping things pure, you might want to look at surfaces we associate with bathrooms and kitchens - so stainless steel, chrome, glass and ceramics - this will be as much about texture as it is about colour and tone:

    In light of your OCD idea, I think the interior shot becomes interesting and significant, because it's this space that should help us understand this. Calvino talks about the telescopes and the 'looking down' on the earth, so maybe look at sterile hospital or scientific interiors for inspiration:
